The three states of matter

Solid, liquid and gas are the three states of matter. We went outside to pretend to be in these states.

In a solid, there are many bonds between atoms or molecules, so that it stays quite stiff, but shakes a little:

A liquids has less bonds, so that the atoms or molecules can slide across one another more freely:

Once a substance turns into a gas, there are even less bonds between atoms or molecules so that it can spread out as far as it is able to:

We had fun!

Magnets and friction investigations

In Class 4 we have been finding out about magnets. Last week we explored different questions; this week we have carried out some fair tests to find out whether friction affects how things move on different surfaces.

Here are some photos of us investigating...

Then we discussed what we had found out in our groups- in the sun...

Make do and mend

Using our cutting and sewing skills we are creating silhouettes of London during the Blitz...

Welcome back Class 4

Our topic for this term is World War 2. We made gas masks.

Ready for an air raid.

We will base descriptive writing on our topic, so we are busy collecting fantastic figurative language, powerful verbs and creative openers.

Today we were wartime children - every time we heard an air raid siren we had to put on our gas masks and scramble quickly to get under the table for shelter. We woke up the whole school!
