Local history week in Class 4!

Today we have started our local history week in Class 4; to continue our class topic of World War 2, we will be finding out about  Bressingham School during the Second World War.

We have original documents from World War 2 times to use for our enquiry- how exciting!

The admission register tells us names, dates and addresses of pupils and the log book describes events at school in those days...

Class 4 were very excited to read what the log book said and wrote some notes about what they found out...

Then we looked at the admissions register to find out about the ages of the pupils when they began at Bressingham School and when they left.

Using an online graphing program, we created graphs to show what we had found out.

Following this, we looked at attendance figures, given as fractions, in the school log book for the war years and converted these to percentages, which was quite a challenge! Some used long division to help and some used calculators.

Here we are preparing our presentations; some groups chose to make PowerPoint presentations, some dramatic pieces, and some combined these two genre...

Finally each group presented their information to the rest of the class, who provided positive feedback and improvement points.

Amazing teamwork from all...

Autumn Day 2

Using the autumn leaves we collected, we layered the different sized leaves between two layers of paper and made rubbings. Wow!

Some children used their leaves and conkers to make natural collages in the style of Andy Goldsworthy.

Here are some stunning examples of our work.

We looked at the poem After Apple Picking by Robert Frost  and devised a performance in our groups.
We felt the poem had a dreamlike quality to it so some of our performance included sleeping!

We played some Autumn Games too!  Apple bobbing was a favourite; getting wet and eating, what a combination. It is also one of our 100 memorable events.

In the afternoon we had a conker competition, Mr King was keen to have a go too!

Another one of our 100 events!

What a fantastic autumn day! We loved it.

An evacuee from World War 2 visits Class 4

On Thursday this week we were pleased to welcome an amazing lady called Elsie to Class 4. She was just 8 years old when she was evacuated from London to Devon. She told us stories about her experiences and answered lots of our questions about what life was like for her during that troubled time.

We were all fascinated by her wartime tales and enjoyed her visit very much, learning from an older person. Thank you Mrs Lidsey.

Autumn Day

Today Class 4 are having an Autumn day.

The children collected natural things from their gardens and created art based on the work of Andy Goldsworthy.

Making films!

Over the last few weeks, Class 4 have been busy planning, then making films about internet safety, to help explain this to other classes.

First we developed plans by drawing storyboards and looking at films to get ideas. Here are a couple of our initial ideas maps and story boards:

Last week we were busy filming our footage, so forgot to take photos for our class blog!

This week we have been learning how to edit our footage, trimming the clips and re-ordering them, before adding titles and captions, sound bites, sound clips and pictures...

A few finishing touches are needed, then we will be able to show our films to the different classes and help them to be safer on the internet, together with evaluating our own films and those made by other groups.
