Post SATs fun for year 6

Fun, freaky, fabulous Friday: the post SATs day of fun for Year 6 . The children chose some activities to do : decorating biscuits, free art, dodgeball, games outside and   Capture the flag.

After lunch, Class 4 had some free Arts with Year 5.

Last session of the day was P.E  with Capture the flag  and some fun warm ups and cool downs. 

Ending with the Mummy game !!

Geography PowerPoint Presentstions

Today we have given our group PowerPoint presentations to the rest of the class. Each group found out about a different kind of extreme weather, by researching. We made notes, referencing them, then compiled out presentations on screen. These were edited and improved, before the final reveal...

World Book Day 2016

Yesterday was World Book Day, we celebrated by dressing up as book characters . Can you guess which book characters we were ?

It appears that Maleficent was in Class 4 !

During the day we looked at Fibonacci's sequence using the book The Rabbit Problem by Emily Gravett

We read books we had never read before !

We  looked at The Arrival by Shaun Tan 

We looked at the illustrations and found '10 things we notice  about the picture'. 

Towards the end of day we listened to different stories read by different staff.

It was a booktastic day !

Class 4 present evidence for reopening the case of the Highwayman...

Class 4 were set the challenge of re-examining the evidence against 'The Highwayman' in Alfred Noyes' poem, to see whether the case against him should be re-opened. 

They looked again at the poem and also at some other pieces of evidence: coins found with Tim the ostler, a letter found on the Highwayman and another piece of parchment bearing instructions for the redcoat soldiers who killed the Highwayman. 

Their next task was to present the evidence for re-opening the case by preparing persuasive pieces of writing in a formal style, suitable for presenting in a court, to a judge who would decide. For this formal writing, passive voice, subjective mood and modal verbs were vital.

Judge King was the presiding judge in this case, and today the hearing took place...

After hearing the evidence, the court stood to listen to the judge's judgement on this important case. The investigating team were relieved to find out that all their hard work had paid off; the judge concurred that the case should be re-opened.

There was a great feeling of achievement and reward, together with celebration. Hooray for the cold case investigating team!

Whodunnit?

The Forensic teams have finished their analysis of the evidence and second interviews with the suspects. 

We can reveal the chief suspect and the person that all forensic teams believe is the perpetrator:

Mr Matt Porter!! 

Many pieces of evidence linked Mr Matt Porter to the crime: fingerprint match to a fingerprint on the laptop used to hit Mrs Erith over the head; hair found at the scene matched Mr Porter's hair; a footprint found at the crime scene matched a boot found in school which was the same size as Mr Porter's shoe and had blood stains on it; an alibi which claimed he didn't see Mrs Erith in the staff room although he had a mug of coffee at the same temperature as Mrs Erith's found at the crime scene. Although other suspects could be linked to the crime scene by one or two pieces of evidence, Mr Porter was placed at the scene of the crime by many pieces of evidence.

We had great fun doing the CSI days; the class liked the way all the staff involved acted like suspects  and lots of the class really enjoyed collecting evidence from the crime scene. Thank you to all the staff who took part.

Maybe some of Class 4 might use the experience to look in more depth at what forensic scientists do; you never know it might be a future career for some of them ! 

Whose boot?

The Forensic Team have undertaken further tests on the boot. The suspects have been further questioned. Will the case be solved? Will the forensic teams link the evidence to their suspects?
